Little Waihi Fun Day #1.....

Jen and Corey ran a two day "Go Wild" event for some of the local homeschoolers and we had a fantastic time. We started each day off with 'Boofer Tag' (two people, each holding hands with a pool noodle in their 'spare' hand, tagging people. When you get tagged, you take the noodle and join the end of the chain:

We divided into four teams and each team made a team flag. There were the The Creepy Crabs (A10's team):

The Blazing Comets (L8's team):

The Fantastic Six (H7's team):

And The Lazy Pigs:

We had some morning tea while we waited for our flags to dry, then we took them down to the beach and had a sandcastle competition. We got some nearby campers, Sandy and Matthias, to do a spot of Guest Judging:

They deemed The Creepy Crabs' castle as being very well fortified for being built so close to the water:

The Fantastic Six as having a lovely King and Queen;

The Blazing Comets as having the best 'outside' theme:

And The Lazy Pigs as the overall winners:

Then we had some beach races:

And did some Surf Lifesaving races - start lying down on the sand with your chin on your hands and your feet facing the finish line, then you leap up, turn around and grab a stick once you cross the line, there being one less stick than racers:

After lunch we did some team activities, like Lily Pads - where you have to get from one end of the grid to the other, using only four 'Lily Pads' (paper plates):

And we did some Compass Rosing - draw a picture on the grass with nails and string, following directions according to your compass rose (3 paces SW, 5 paces N, etc.):

And some Bucket Lifting (raise and lower a bucket with your communal feet):

And if you did it without spilling it on yourselves, you got to throw the contents at an opposing team:

There was some rope navigation - get from one end of the tarp and back again without touching the many and varied interlocking and interwoven lines of rope running throughout:

We couldn't resist removing all the ropes and standards and having a slippery-slide once everyone had succesfully completed the rotations:

Afternoon Tea over and done with, we had a few games of Jelly Bean transfers - using only your mouth, team members take turns transfering one spoonful of Jelly Beans from their start bowl to their finish bowl:

Gumboot races were great fun, and fairly self-explanatory:

Tissue Races were easy enough going into the wind, but a bit more difficult trying to keep your tissue on the end of your straw with the wind blowing at your back, lol:

Sloshy Gumboots was a great activity - choose a pair of gumboots from the range of small-ish to huge-ish, run down to a trough filled with water and jump in - boots 'n all! Then you have to try and get back to your team with your gumboots filled with water:

Tip any remaining water into your bucket and then the next person has a go, with your team trying to fill your bucket first:

All team members stand in a line and hiff a gumboots in a spontaneous Gumboot Toss for something to do:

The day was finished with an hilarious round of Dress-Up Torture:

A Victim (ooops, I mean 'Volunteer') is dressed in an item of the team member whose turn it is's choice, then a 'task' is performed on the volunteer - paint their nails, smash a water balloon on them, cream pie them, etc. What a hoot:

At the end of the day, everyone was keen as to return the next day when parents arrived to pick them up:
