Port Fitzroy and Warrens Track.....
We took the kayak over to Port Fitzroy and half of us had a bit of a paddle round the bay while the other half of us explored the area by foot. The Lad and the girls heading out:
L5 on the monkey bars, the swing and wearing a skeleton leaf he found as a Silver Fern:
The pontoon:
The fish preparation area on the way round to get to the pontoon:
Mucking about on the pontoon:
One of the local Pateke, NZ's rarest native duck. They have quite a strong population here, but nowhere else in the world, and they are getting even rarer every year. Our landlord reckons they are their own worst enemy, he says they are really neglectful mothers and they wander round on the roads at night:
Looking out from the pontoon to see if the others are heading back in yet:
And then spotting them having a wee pit stop:
A banded rail. Loads of them around too, they reminded me a bit of the cheeky little weka on Ulva Island (off Stewart Island):
L5 having his morning tea:
Hand feeding the pateke:
After lunch, we went for a walk through the bush at Akapoua and had a play at the waterfall. Really, really cold!:
