School's Back.....

And what a glorious morning! L10 took a photo of one of her petunias, they've been such great value, they've just flowered and flowered and flowered:

She went round some of the fruit trees, the last of the lemons and plums:

And the first of the peaches:

Then it was time to get down to some serious schoolwork. So.....

.....we jumped in the car and headed off to meet Kate and The Gang at the beach! Her big boy had his best walking-round-The-Mount-shoes on:

It took us a fabulously long time to get round, because we had to check out the really black, sparkly sand:

And throw driftwood cabers:

And draw giraffes in the sand:

And wander off the track and climb structures:

And wander off the track and scale rocky outcrops:

And hang off the tree roots:

And check out rats in the vegetation:

And get the obligatory 'kids in the cave' photo:

Don't you love it how, for so many years that there is a well-worn path there, the kids of all the generations that have gone before have walked 'above' the actual *track*?:

We finally made it to the *actual* beach, and it was all on:

Kate didn't do her *delicious* bikini any justice on her blog, so here's the close-up shot of the pink-and-white checks and the frills:

And we were thinking 'bout ya, chick!:

When we got home, The Lad and the kids went for a run through the forest. They decided instead to go hunter-gathering for dessert when they came across The Mother Load of berries:

OMG, you have me in tears! All those years of opportunities and fun, and it's only been the last 3 years that I have come to appreciate them! Reading about your day makes me long to have my time over again, makes me very aware of the silence and loneliness here this morning, with even my baby gone to work. Stay in the moment Debs, roll in the joy of it like a dog in something dead and unidentifiable, and hope the smell of these glorious days sticks to your soul for ever.

Hay - Back at ya chick on The Lurve front, I was mesmerised with the bikini, and I love the forest berries we get in abundance, we are lucky that there is enough to share with all the forest users - both the neighbours and the birds, lol!

Cally - I learned from the best ;o) The first (and most eloquent in expressing the philosophy in words) real live 'unschooler' I ever met. I even remember asking you, when you still lived in Hamilton, about where you did 'school' - and you took me down to your 'schoolroom' and you showed me how you didn't do school at all! I remember leaving and thinking "wha.....?", and "but.....", ;o) Then slowly, over the next few years, it dawned on me, seeing you and those fabulous boys come in to work in the combi, and having the pleasure of having a conversation with them that was much deeper than I would normally have delved with young minds of their age, that it was actually the school's and me who didn't get it - not you. And I knew I wanted children like yours xoxoxo
