Brownie Camp - Day Two.....

We started off the day bright and early (did I mention early?) with breakfast in the sunshine and some morning jumping exercises, then we split into our Secret Agent Factions (H8 was in FBI (purple armbands) and I was in MI5 (red)) and followed our clue trail to another kit box hidden in the forest. Inside, we found our mission was to construct a shelter without breaking anything that was growing and to use only the 6 tent pegs, 2 pieces of rope and the tarpaulin supplied. Then we had to eat our morning tea in there and crack some codes to find our next task:

Because I was Camp Cook, I couldn't partake in the next phase as I was preparing lunch for the hungry Spies, hence no photos. But I did manage to also get the dinner half prepared so I could go on the Spy Mission to the Otawa Dam in the afternoon. We did the 40 minute direct hike up to the dam along the track, complete with about 6 stream crossings, which gives you an idea of how snakey the stream was, crossing and re-crossing the track with maddening frequency (especially when Jenny took it upon herself to make sure I got wet *every* time, lol!:

The journey back was 1hr20mins, following the stream, testing and maintaining our footing on the rocky bottom, manoeuvering round the really deep bits and scaling the mini-waterfalls and various obstacles along the way, it was a great experience for some of the girls who have never done anything like that before:

The leaders had roast chook with all the trimmings ;o) and the girls cooked their own dinners on disposable barbecues in their Spy Groups:

Dessert was a spectacle from start to finish - who knew you could Flambe with such style on camp? They started with a peeled banana split down the middle and stuffed with marshmallows and dark chocolate and then wrapped them well in a double layer of tinfoil:

Then they put them in washed out milk cartons all lined up in a trough, and set them on fire:

When the flames had died down, the marshmallows and chocolate were at perfect melted temperature. The obligatory scoop of ice cream on the side and we could dig in:

The campfire photos were naff, but it was great singing.
